The Mazer Cup International 2009, was a roaring success with both Professional Meaderies and Home Mead Enthusiasts from around the world. It was apparent to all that the level of quality mead in the commercial mead industry is constantly getting better and better! Once again this classic competition will be focused on the best of Professional and Enthusiast mead makers.

If you've never tasted mead, you're missing out! Mead comes in a dazzling array of styles, flavours, and types that range from light and dry to full and rich with honey.

The MAZER CUP INTERNATIONAL - COMMERCIAL MEAD COMPETITION is sponsored by GotMead.Com and an organizing committee of home mead makers, and mead enthusiasts world wide. All mead entered is produced by professional mead makers in a licensed commercial facility. This competition is an independent event and is organized and run by mead enthusiasts and home mead makers only.

Eligibility:

  • Any mead produced in a licensed commercial facility is eligible to enter.

Entry procedure:

  • Entry into the next MCI - Commercial competition will be available in 2011

  • 2010 Entries are now closed

  • All shipping containers must be clearly labeled:
    “SAMPLE ONLY NOT FOR RESALE”

  • Entries may be submitted by checking the appropriate box on the entry forms.
  • Please send 4 bottles per entry.
  • The fee is $55 per entry.
  • Entry fees apply only to the first (8) eight entries ($55 per entry) to a maximum of $440 for any meadery. There is no fee for additional entries past eight (8) bottles.
  • Entrants are responsible for categorization of their entries and providing all pertinent information requested on the entry form.
  • Entries that fail to list the sweetness or carbonation levels will be judged relative to the defaults defined in the most current MCI – Commercial Style guidelines.
  • Entry paperwork and any checks necessary are due by the entry deadline at the address listed at the beginning of this document.

Judging procedures:

  • For the sake of uniformity of judging, there will be a judge calibration discussion prior to the judging for the purpose of discussing the point system, and MCI competition philosophy.
  • No judge may be assigned to a flight to which s/he has submitted an entry.
  • Entries will be pre-poured in a room separate from the judging location and brought to the judging tables.
  • Judges will evaluate the meads according to the most current MCI - Commercial Style Guidelines and provide as much descriptive and helpful feedback as possible.

Awards:

  • First second and third place awards will be awarded respectively to the three highest scoring meads in each category.
  • Judges decisions are final.

Restrictions on using awards as advertising:

  • When using any award granted by this competition in advertising, the entrant agrees to:

    •  State the full name and year of the competition.
    •  State the award granted

  • Images of the awards given may be used only with the written or emailed authorization of MCI-Commercial Judging Director.
  • No other claims may be made based upon an award from this competition.
  • Failure to comply with these guidelines is basis for the revocation of any award granted to the mead in question.
